The Houston Rockets were hit harder than the 2025-26 season as point guard Fred Van Bulito defeated the ACL.
The Rockets have come out of an impressive offseason, with a major addition from Kevin Durant being pushed into title competition.
They also added Dorian Finney Smith, Clint Capella and Josh Okogee, giving them solid depth that could carry them into deep playoff runs.
However, Vanvleet could appear throughout the season, which immediately reduces Rockets’ championship hopes.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the devastating Vanvleet News. This is a potential season-ending loss for the Rockets, and now they have no starting point guard.
“Yeah, this horrible news that starts the NBA season and has a huge impact on Rocket. This will be a 9-12 month timeline that will bring out the entire 25-26 season,” the physiotherapy doctor wrote.
One fan was surprised and said, “Just before the start of the season. It’s absolutely cruel.”
Another fan couldn’t help but think about what this meant for Durant’s chances of winning another title.
One NBA fan pointed out that the Rockets are a much better team from Van Vleet, saying, “Rockets Records at FVV: 41-19, Rockets Records without FVV: 11-11. One of the best teams in the West.
However, one fan tried to find a positive in the midst of this terrible news, saying, “It’s time for Reed Sheppard to shine!”
Vanvleet averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 60 games last season, earning 34.5% from the 3-point range. Vanvleet production will be difficult for rockets to replace.
Third-grade guard Armentompson should put a lot of strain on his injuries and Aaron’s holidays can also be seen expanding his role.
Another player who can see the role increase is Reed Sheppard. Rockets need a big year.
Sheppard didn’t have a defined role for this season, but now he’s going to be a key secondary ball handler and shooter for Rockets’ second unit.
This loss means that the rocket needs several internal pieces to step up.
