With Callum Wilson likely to leave, Newcastle United reportedly took the first approach to signing an 18-goal advance and are even pleased to pay a big fee to secure his signature this summer.
Callum Wilson was able to leave Newcastle for free
After five years at Newcastle, Wilson is set to leave the club as a free agent when his current contract ends next month. The experienced striker hasn’t put his pen on paper yet, leaving St. James Park in tears following what is likely to be his final match with the club against Everton.
But despite his contract status and feelings about full-time last weekend, Eddie Howe remained collaborative on Wilson’s future. The Newcastle boss told reporters: “Let’s wait and see. We’ll sit with his representative.
“I don’t know about the idea that there will be a big change in the summer. I’m in a position where I don’t know what will happen. You never know about moving into the summer with no numbers, in or out.”
However, I have to say that replacing Wilson with or without a new contract is not a bad idea for the Magpie. The experienced striker often struggled with injuries, and Howe forced him to play roles like Anthony Gordon in his frontline lead without Alexander Isaac throughout the season.
Given that they still have the Champions League football they offer, Newcastle and PIF were able to aim for some of Europe’s top talents. And while names like Jonathan David are mentioned, it could still be another League One talent that arrives.
Newcastle makes the first Kalimuendo approach
According to L’Equipe, Newcastle is now taking the first approach to signing Arnaud Karimendor, as relayed by sports witnesses, and is ready to pay a big fee to advance Stade Renai.
