Newcastle United claims that they had “no commitment” to Alexander Isaac that they could leave the club during the transfer period.
Isak is linked to the move to Liverpool, the news that dominated the Magpies’ preseason, with the Premier League champions rejecting the add-on in addition to a £110 million bid.
The Swedes then outlined his desire to leave Newcastle on Tuesday, accusing him of breaking his promises about his future.
During the transfer saga, Isaac trained alone at his former club Real Sociedad during Newcastle’s Asian preseason tour, but also missed out on the Premier League opener with Aston Villa last Saturday.
Newcastle clarified their attitude towards his future, following his statement between him and the club, saying “relationships cannot last.”
“We are disappointed that Alexander Isaac’s social media posts were warned about,” Newcastle said on its website.
“It is clear in response to Alex being signed and not commitment made by club officials that he will be able to leave Newcastle United this summer.
“We want to keep the best players, but we also understand that players have their own wishes and listen to them.
“As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always consider the greatest interests of Newcastle United, our team and our supporters in every decision. It is clear that the terms of sale have not occurred this summer.
“We don’t expect those conditions to be met.
“This is a proud football club with a proud tradition and we strive to maintain a family atmosphere. Alex is part of our family and is welcomed when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”
Last week, Eddie Howe described Isaac’s situation as “unhealthy.” Previously, the striker’s future was out of his hands, and he admitted that he only wanted players who “committed” with his team.
Isak scored 23 Premier League goals in the previous term, and his tally was only improved by Mohamed Salah (29) on the top flight.
So he was selected for the 2024-25 PFA Premier League team on Tuesday’s season, but chose to skip the awards ceremony in Manchester.
Isak scored 54 goals and provided nine assists in Newcastle’s Premier League 86 appearances, with only Alan Shearer (148) netting more for the competition’s Magpie.
Newcastle’s next Premier League outing will face Liverpool on Monday at St James Park.
