According to multiple sources, Newcastle is pushing hard to sign Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey. The two clubs are currently in negotiations and progress has been made at several points over the past two days. Magpies have not yet filed an official offer, but it is expected to happen soon.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is considered a long-term admirer at the 24-year-old, representing England at all young levels, but not yet earning a senior hat. Howe sees Ramsey as a very appropriate candidate to fill the gap left by Sean Longstaff’s sale to Leeds.
West Ham is thought to be interested, but Newcastle has been exchanging more in the race and is confident that the move will soon be made to Tyneside.
Though a midfielder by trade, most of Ramsey’s 46 appearances at Aston Villa last season appeared on the left-off side in all competitions. He scored four goals and contributed seven assists.
