Newcastle United are tied to the movement of Crystal Palace defender Mark Gehch at the end of the season.
They wanted to sign the 24-year-old England international defender last year, but it was priced out of his move. Crystal Palace was postponed last year at a rate of around £70 million.
Prices may drop this summer
Crystal Palace is unlikely to ask for such money this summer, according to former Premier League Scoutmic Brown. Newcastle remains enthusiastic about the players and they are now expected to return for him.
“Newcastle is still interested in Mark Guech,” he told Soccer Insider.
“They want to sign centre-backs and he is their outstanding candidate.
“Everyone knew how enthusiastic they were last year, and he did nothing to put off a potential suitor.
“He will not dismiss the £70 million palace last year due to contract status.
“So for Newcastle, it will boost your chances of getting it done with cheaper deals.
“That doesn’t mean he’s cheap by any means, but that’s not the same £70 million fee.”
It will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done. They need defensive reinforcements, and England International could form a robust partnership with Sven Bottman, the centre of their defense.
Mark Guech improves Newcastle
Newcastle needs to improve defensively if they want to fight for major trophies. They have shown incredible growth in recent seasons and are currently sought for Champions League qualification. They were able to win the English League Cup again this season. However, to compete with elite clubs, you need a better player.
Guehi helps them improve defensively. By joining Newcastle, he will be able to play in the Champions League again next season. His previous club Chelsea is also enthusiastic about him.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle is offering a player to sign an offer in the coming weeks. They want him to sign for a reasonable amount. His contract with Crystal Palace expired in 2026, and the London Club is under pressure to sell him this summer.
