Sandro Tonari has been a Newcastle revelation since returning to football in August after a 10-month ban on crime, but he has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in recent months, but fears another suspension is on his way.
In October 2023, Tonari was issued a long-term ban after an investigation into the crime of betting that rocked Italian football. Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagiori has also been punished, and both players have now been re-appointed as part of a new gambling investigation by the authorities.
Newcastle doesn’t expect a new Sandro Tonari punishment
As reported in The Times (via 90 minutes), the new investigation relates to previous cases involving Tonali, but he is named alongside Fagioli and former Man United Winger Angel Di Maria, but Newcastle is said to be “no concern” about the midfielder being stopped again.
The nature of the new investigation has been stated not to bring about sports sanctions on Tonari, but he could be fined if he commits illegal gambling crimes from a criminal perspective.
Newcastle supporters should be able to withstand the news that Newcastle supporters around the world are unlikely to face more time from football.
However, by avoiding sports sanctions, Tonari also increases the chances of running away in the summer. Barcelona is one of the clubs that are said to follow a potential Newcastle midfielder.
