Newcastle United are already planning their next transfer window after an overwhelming summer transfer period.
Magpies signed players like Nick Ultemade and Anthony Elanga, but they lost Alexander Isaac to Liverpool and failed to strengthen the midfield.
One of the names currently gaining traction in the St. James Park corridor is Reuben Neves, now in Al Hilal.
According to TBR Football, Magpies are seriously considering the move to bring him back to the Premier League and hopes that his experience and calmness will strengthen the engine room for seasonal break-in.
The rationale behind Newcastle’s interest is clear. Neves is a proven performer in the mid-games, capable of controlling tempo, determining ownership and providing defensive cover.
Reuben Neves wants to return to the Premier League
Furthermore, Neves is reportedly keen to return to England. His contract with Al Hillal expired at the end of this season, putting him in a relatively flexible position.
The Saudi Arabian club may prefer to win cash during the winter window, rather than risking losing him on a free transfer.
The midfielder, currently garnering 410k-Aweek for the Saudi Arabian club, has past experience in the wolves and Premier League and is hoping to return to the UK.
Graeme Bailey told TBR Football:
“Neves is said to believe there is an “unfinished” business in the UK. He had a great time in Molinaw and he is still very respected.
“But it’s not surprising that he’ll return to England.
“While he has strong interest in returning to Portugal, he also has strong interest in Spain and Italy, he cannot believe that he lacks the options.
“Neves is believed to be not looking for similar wages given his significant income during his stay in Saudi Arabia. He is in a good position to choose the best club for him. This move is not about finances.”
Newcastle faces competition to sign Neves
Newcastle will likely face competition, clubs such as Tottenham and Manchester United have been mentioned on Transfer Chat.
Additionally, consolidating the Neves midseason could be a challenge. He needs to adapt to the pressures of his new teammates, new tactical systems and fans hoping for instant impact.
Newcastle’s interest in Neves is far from surprise, and his profile matches many of their immediate needs. His familiarity with the Premier League, coupled with the possibility of bargain trading, taking into account his contract situation, offers a strong appeal.
If Newcastle succeeds, Neves’ Return will resonate not only as a headline signature, but as a statement of intentions for ambitions in the coming months.
