The second round pick in the second half isn’t often the biggest story of the draft, but that’s the deal you sign up for when LeBron James is your father.
With all that in mind, Bronnie James manages to carve out a respectable name for himself after setting the initial unnecessary hype to fail.
Bronnie James has won a stripe in the G League and continues to showcase his ever-growing game with a glimpse of the possibilities for the Lakers as well.
After the South Bay Lakers’ recent scoring explosion erupted 39 points against the Santa Cruz Warriors, NBA analyst Nick Wright jumped into his defense with ultimate praise.
From LeBron James to Stephen A. Smith’s fight over Bronnie James to another analyst defending his exploitation, young James fights the story with effort.
Bronney was recently approved by his father after leading the Unmanned Lakers by scoring in a recent NBA game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Now Wright has the ability to jump on his defense, straighten out the facts about the stories of the people surrounding the player, and become the “top 5%” scenario of all the second round picks in NBA history.
After Cowherd tried to fall below his achievements by calling him a “slow bluemer” who might be a spinner, Wright launched a fierce defense.
Speaking about the herd with Colin Cowhard, Wright said:
“If he is a spinning player, it would be one of the best two or three picks in the entire second round of his draft.
“That’s why it was so unfair to treat Bronnie like he was a “Make a Wish” kid. It’s a completely reasonable pick and he’s now surpassing reasonable expectations! ”
Bronnie James would have expected the coverage surrounding his name would mean that the two-round pick would be different to what he’d ever got.
That being said, the discourse was ridiculous as LeBron James was “pleaded” to save Bronnie from himself and take him from the court.
Like Wright said, no one expects a two-round pick. It hopes to remain in the league in five years.
Certainly, LeBron James didn’t help the story by calling Bronnie better than some NBA players when he wasn’t in the league or when he wasn’t producing a debut moment that was clearly not ready.
But since then, Bronnie has been nothing more than an exemplary expert who has shown an incredible ability to block noise and focus on improving his game.
His performance has already paid off.
