Who is Nico Williams? Background and early career
Williams is either left field or wide advance playing for the Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish national team.
Williams’ brother Inaki Williams, born to Ghanaian refugee parents, is also in Athletic Bilbao, and represents Ghana at an international level.
Williams has also appeared in the book at Osasuna and Pamplona at youth level before winning his first team breakthrough in the athletics in 2020.
It wasn’t really until the 2021/22 season that Williams began to establish himself as a regular at his club. The players featured 40 times that season and scored three goals.
From there he didn’t look back, becoming Full Spanish International in 2022 and an outstanding 2024 in 2024.
Career statistics and achievements
Williams currently plays 167 games for the athletics and scores 31 goals, including the end of the season.
For Spain, the young attacker has six goals with 28 caps. His form for the Euro last summer saw him named on the tournament team.

Williams also appeared in the Europa League team for the 2024/25 season, even if his team was knocked out by Manchester United in the semi-finals.
Whoscored describes Williams as a player who likes to dribble. This is listed as a “very strong” area, but he is also stated to be strong in cross and key pass, explaining his strong return with nine assists in the season.
Summer 2025 Transfer Window
It seems obviously too good that Williams is not targeted by European elites at some point, and there has been a long time of massive reports that Arsenal is a fan of him.

Bayern appears to be the most likely destination for Williams at this point, but he is best for Arsenal and Romano appears to suggest that they haven’t come out of it yet.
It will also be interesting to see if the 22-year-old can be persuaded to sign a new contract with his boyhood club.
After all, Williams refused the offer to leave last summer and told L’Equipe he had no regrets about his decision.
