Nicolo Brega’s victory in Race 2 of the Estoril World SBK guaranteed him at least a place at the final race in Jerez in 2025 with a mathematical challenge for the championship, and the Italian vowed to “never give up”.
Brega won race two by a landslide, beating Razgatlioglu by more than four seconds.
The Italian described the victory as “important” but is aware that his chances of winning the title are increasingly remote, with only 62 points left and 39 points behind Razgatlioglu.
“It was a very good race,” Nicolo Brega told WorldSBK.com after Race 2.
“The bike improved a lot in this morning’s Super Pole race and this win is important so I’m happy.
“We know that the championship is very difficult, but we will never give up.”
“All I can do now is put pressure on Toprak and do my best. That’s the only thing I can do right now.”
Although the title is slipping away, Brega feels the 2025 World Superbike season, with 11 wins, is one to be proud of.
“Toprak (Razgatlioglu) was strong all season, but I think it was a very good season for us as well,” he said.
“I will give 200 percent in Jerez.”
In Jerez the calculation will be much easier. Brega needs to beat Razgatlioglu by at least two points in race one to win the title on Sunday. For Razgatlioglu, on the other hand, even if Brega wins all three races, he still needs to finish in the top six in each of the three races at Jerez to clinch the title.
