Noche UFC has a headliner!
On Tuesday, Dana White announced on September 13 that Diego Lopez and Jean Silva will be squared at the Frostbank Center as the main event of Mexican Independence Day celebrations in San Antonio.
Lopez and Silva both competed in UFC 314 in April. The former fell short on his first title opportunity and fell to 145 pound champion Alexander Volkanovsky. Meanwhile, “Lord” cruelly slept Bryce Mitchell in the second round of their too-personal encounter for one of the night’s most memorable performances.
Silva’s victory extended his unbeaten streak to 13. His final defeat dates back much further back in 2018 at the regional circuit in his home country of Brazil.
Lopez appears to bounce back against the fast-growing Silva at Nosh UFC
Lopes currently sits as a competitor ranked second in featherweight, following a series of impressive performances against Sodiq Yusuff, Dan Ige and Brian Ortega. Lopez got the opportunity to challenge Volkanovsky for the vacant featherweight strap in Miami, but ultimately surrendered the Australian icon to a unanimous decision.
His fight with Silva will be his first since seeing his five-fight consecutive wins snapped.
Meanwhile, Silva has been riding a huge wave of momentum, landing five straight highlight reel finishes since winning a UFC contract in the Dana White contender series in 2023.
