Indian wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul is likely to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) season. If Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson’s move to the franchise happens next, the right-handed batsman will part ways with Delhi Capitals.
Player trades and releases often occur during the offseason. Teams can make trades up to one week before the auction and can continue trading up to one month before the start of the next season. Trades can be made as all-cash deals or player swaps, allowing franchises to adjust their teams based on tactical and financial needs.
Unforgettable IPL 2025 nullifies KKR leadership
Kolkata Knight Riders had a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign. The team finished in 8th place despite entering the season as defending champions. Notably, the team struggled to maintain consistency throughout the tournament.

Rahane has resigned as captain of the Mumbai national cricket team. The Kolkata team needs to appoint a new captain for next season. They also need a wicketkeeper-batsman as Quinton de Kock has only scored 152 runs in eight matches.
The franchise is now expected to be revamped under a new head coach for the IPL 2026 season. Former all-rounder Abhishek Nayar has been appointed as the head coach.
KL Rahul likely to leave Delhi national capital if Sanju Samson joins
Rep Sports journalist Rohit Jugran said on his YouTube channel that KL Rahul might consider joining another franchise if Sanju Samson’s move to Delhi Capitals goes through. He also clarified that there have been no formal discussions so far.
“Most importantly, KL Rahul could leave if Sanju Samson’s likely move to Delhi materializes,” Jugran said.
“So, where will KL Rahul go? Is there a chance he will join KKR? Very likely. I don’t rule it out. But I have no solid information to suggest that talks have started between Kolkata Knight Riders and KL Rahul,” he added.
Apart from KKR, other franchises are also interested in Rahul.
Rohit Jugran said Rahul could be the perfect fit for Kolkata Knight Riders. However, he also said that another team may be interested in signing him. Jugran clarified that the transfer requires mutual agreement between Delhi Capitals and the player.
“If Abhishek Nehru believes that Rahul is suitable, then he can lead KKR,” Jugran said. “He can captain the team, open the innings, protect the wickets and solve the three key problems for the team. Rahul will fit seamlessly into the KKR set-up.”
“But the question is, is KKR the only franchise on his radar or are other teams also interested? I can confirm that there is at least one more team, but I won’t reveal the name yet as I don’t have any confirmation. For the move to happen, KL Rahul and Delhi Capitals need to agree, as he is still under contract.”
