Nico Harrison was already under fire from Dallas Mavericks fans for the Luka Doncic trade, but another trade is proving to be pretty bad in its own right.
Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison made himself public enemy number one among the fan base by trading away Luka Doncic and acquiring Anthony Davis.
Since this trade, Harrison has been proven wrong in trading Luka multiple times, even after the Mavericks got lucky with Cooper Flagg.
Many Mavericks fans are upset about the Harrison trade, as Doncic has been more effective than Flagg and Davis combined this season.
But Anthony Davis wasn’t the only notable player Harrison traded last season. In fact, another star player Harrison acquired underperformed this season.
One of the most lopsided trades last season (other than Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis) was the Dallas Mavericks trading Quentin Grimes and Caleb Martin.
The trade for Grimes backfired on the Mavericks almost immediately, but he went on to have great success with the Philadelphia 76ers.
And although Grimes didn’t get a new contract from the 76ers, he started the season strong, averaging 18.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Caleb Martin hasn’t made an impression with the Dallas Mavericks. This season, Martin is averaging just 2.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.
Martin was supposed to be a reliable role player for the Mavericks, but his presence wasn’t important to the team’s performance.
Nico Harrison may not regret trading Luka Doncic, but he will have to reflect on his decision to trade Quentin Grimes and Caleb Martin.
The Dallas Mavericks have had a rough start to the season, falling to 2-5 after losing to the Houston Rockets last night.
Many, like Stephen A. Smith, supported the Mavericks as title contenders at the beginning of the season. It’s safe to say they haven’t lived up to that expectation.
The Mavericks are fortunate that their downsides are showing up early in the NBA season. This will allow you to pinpoint exactly what the problem is.
Perhaps they should start by insisting that Jason Kidd play Cooper Flagg at point guard. That puts the star rookie in a difficult position.
