A number of Manchester United players have come under intense scrutiny this season, which is no surprise given their performances and results.
United currently sit 10th in the league and are preparing to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The Red Devils’ poor results, inconsistency and uncertainty over manager Ruben Amorim’s future have dominated the headlines this season.
United players have been criticized by fans and former players for failing to live up to the expectations and demands of playing for one of the world’s biggest clubs.
Paul Scholes has criticized Man United this season
Former Man United midfielder Paul Scholes has become the latest player to criticize United players over their performances this season.
Scholes specifically pointed to Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Casemiro, highlighting how they are not physically fit to compete at the highest level.
“Shaw, Maguire, Casemiro, they were all great players, but they’re at a stage in their careers where if they’re not physical enough they’ll be exposed in the Premier League. he told the Times.
“Their bodies aren’t athletic enough, they’re not strong enough, they’re not fast enough. They’ve fallen to a level where they can’t cope with what the Premier League requires.
“All Premier League players are absolute machines. They’re five per cent body fat, they can run, they’re strong and they can head the ball.
“Manchester United have two or three players who can’t stand it.”
All three players have been active for the Red Devils this season. Shaw has started every Premier League game.
Casemiro has played in most games, while Maguire has also featured consistently for the club this season.
United lack the quality of their Premier League rivals
The futures of Shaw and Casemiro remain uncertain, but Maguire is expected to be offered a new contract by United, although Scholes is likely to strongly oppose this.
With other teams focusing on young, athletic players, United should do the same.
If you compare these three players to the players Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have in these positions, you will see a big difference in terms of age and quality.
Scholes is spot on and this is something United and Amorim will need to address in the upcoming transfer window.
