Manchester United’s midfield rebuild has taken a new turn. After failing to sign Brighton’s Carlos Baleva before the end of the game, the club have shifted their focus to Elliott Anderson, with new head coach Ruben Amorim pushing for a complete overhaul in the center of the park.
United had been monitoring Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton while reconsidering their interest in Valeva, but reports now suggest Anderson has moved to the top of the list.
With Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future in doubt and Casemiro’s contract set to expire next summer, the Old Trafford leadership are preparing for major surgery in a department that Amorim believes lacks both physical balance and creative spark.
Manchester United considering signing Elliott Anderson
United need a more dynamic and athletic midfield presence. The inability to sign Bareva created a clear void, but Anderson’s versatility could fill it.
Comfortable as an advanced number eight, a powerful presser from the inside right channel, and a ball-carrying option connecting play in the half-spaces, he fits the Portuguese manager’s template for a modern-day midfielder.
According to the Mirror, United are currently considering a move for the England international.
Red Devils need more quality in midfield
Anderson’s rapid growth has been one of the talking points this season. Having made his England debut in September, he has already collected four senior caps and is considered a favorite to start at next year’s World Cup.
Importantly, Anderson fits into multiple scenarios facing United over the next 12 months. If Fernandes leaves, Anderson could take on a senior role. If Casemiro leaves at the end of his contract, the manager will require an athletic presence around a new holding midfielder, and Anderson could fill that role.
With Valeva out of reach and Wharton under scrutiny, Anderson has emerged as a possible target.
United’s decision now revolves around price, timing and how Andersson’s arrival fits in with the impending call-ups of Fernandes and Casemiro.
