The Los Angeles started the postseason in a dominant way by beating the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 on Tuesday night. Superstar Shohei Ohtani launched a home run, Teoscar Hernández beat two himself, and even Tommy Edman hit a solo shot to mark the franchise record in the postseason game.
LA has the opportunity to advance to the NLDS with a win on Wednesday, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound and trying to match Blakesnell’s domination in Game 1.
Other news has seen some uneasy moments between Tuesday’s victory (even before the bullpen meltdown) as Quique Hernandez finished the game early with backtightness. After going 3-2, he was replaced by Alex Call, who hit an RBI single and took over in the outfield for the rest of the game.
Manager Dave Roberts said Hernandez will return to the Game 2 lineup after the game.
Plus, one reason Hernandez was in the outfield from the start was that utility star Tommy Edman had worsened ankle injuries last week, according to the president of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman. He still managed to play two bases, but Edman finished the game early as Los Angeles had to manage all the injuries in the postseason.
