The fate of Anjipost Ecogul as head coach of Nottingham Forest was reportedly under threat before his team travelled to face Newcastle on Sunday, and it was said that if they returned from Tyneside without points, the club’s hierarchy would likely consider dismissing the Australian and replacing him beyond the international break.
Bruno Guimarès and Nick Urtemed scored, giving Magpies a 2-0 victory.
Postecoglou, who took over from Nuno Espirito Santo in the beginning of September, led the team through seven matches in all competitions. He completely lost the trust of his supporters on the City Ground, who had been calling for his head after a 2-3 loss to Midzilland in the Europa League earlier this week.
Additionally, Forest, who competed in Europe under Espirito Santo at the end of last season, appears on the course to compete for Premier League survival and sits in 17th place at the table with under five points from seven league games.
But Postecoglou is confident in his own ability to turn everything around. He has recently enjoyed this kind of battle and said this is a familiar territory for him. In his previous coaching career and his own words, there was a nasty beginning, “they’ve finished well.”
The former Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur boss also said he understands club owner Evangelis Marinakis about the current situation.
“I don’t think he’s happy with the situation he’s in now, but neither of them. There’s a clear understanding from that perspective,” he said.
Taking over the Spurs, Postcoglow grabbed his old proverb, and he continued, he has always won silverware in his second season. Contrary to all possibilities, he delivered for the people of North London and led them to the glory and place of the Europa League of the Champions League this season. Still, he was quickly fired, and many were seen as an incredibly tough decision by the Spurs hierarchy.
However, at this point, the 60-year-old tactician doesn’t seem to have the opportunity to repeat the feat. To win in the second season, you need to survive the first season.
