The final lap time from Sunday in the first official 2025 British Superbike Test in Navara. Glen Irwin pips Danny Kent in the afternoon session to honor the first day.

Glenn Irwin picked up the pace to finish the first day of the BSB test at Navara at Hagar PBM Ducati’s top time.

The weather improved, and wet patches were on track in sequence from 9 to 10 in session 1, making Danny Kent second in the opening session, but advanced with a new record of a resurfacement on the Spanish track and a modified layout.

Previously, Danny Kent led the way as if he was on track in the opening stint, finishing with the second best overall time in that session, 1m 45.341 effort, slowing down just 0.017S for the MCAMS Yamaha rider.

The third on the track was guest rider Scott Reading, who got more track time at Ducati, with Tommy Bridewell in third place for the BSB rider, and before he shared with Glen Irwin for the majority of his second session, he led the way, with Bridewell adjacent to Honda Racing UK just ahead of his teammate Andrew Irwin.

Danny Kent’s run in another set-up came sixth on the hard work day of the former Moto3 champion, with Josh Brooks claiming his seventh best lap when adapting to the new Dao Racing Honda machine.

Charlie Nesbitt briefly led the second session on his way to Mastermac Honda’s eighth best time, while Leon Haslam is another rider of another bike in 2025, the fastest Motor Rapid Ducati. Nesbit’s new teammate, John McPhee, made a strong debut with his second Master Mac Honda, completing his first day in the top 10 debut in the class.

Fraser Rogers was closest to Tag Honda’s 11th timesheet, while Peter Hickman, now at 8ten Honda, is 12th, but Kent’s run and Reading guest time was one of the top 10 BSB riders.

In the second session, a short red flag was seen to help remove Vencarry’s BSS bike. John McPhee suffered from late technical issues when he returned to the track for the last few minutes of track time, reserved for British superbike riders only.

Josh Brooks had a small off at turn 15, but quickly rejoined the track.

After the shock late on the OMG Yamaha team, they weren’t off track after 2024 winner Kyle Ryde, 2022 champion Bradley Ray and Rookie Joe Talbot left unguaranteed 2024 winner Kyle Ryde on the eve of the new season.

Official Navarra BSB Records:

Navara went through renovations after his last British superbike visit. The track not only resurfaces, but has also been expanded, making the very new fastest lap a new lap record for the Spanish circuit.

Session 1 Sunday: Danny Kent 1M 45.341s
Session 2 Sunday: Glen Irwin 1m 45.324s

2024 Navara BSB:

Super Pole Wrap: Danny Kent 1m 36.609S (old layout)
Warm-up wrap: Danny Kent 1M 36.253S (old layout)
Race 1:1 Ryan Vickers 2 Kyle Ride 3 Danny Kent
Race 2:1 Ryan Vickers 2 Danny Kent 3 Kyle Ride

In the morning session, Kent led with the best time (1m 45.341s), heading for the final lap, before Glen Irwin’s PBM Ducati.

Andrew Irwin was just ahead of Honda Racing teammate Bridewell, with Haslam in seventh place.

As one of the few guests on track and one of the support class riders, Redding was in the top 10 of Session 1, setting the seventh best time overall.

McPhee finished his first BSB track outing with the eighth best BSB time set for his Master Mac Honda debut, just behind his new teammate Nesbitt.

Rory Skinner was the first rider to show potential times for a new layout, and now ranked 10th in Cheshire Molding at Ducati.

For the first time in orbit there were two red flags, and it was the first early stage of technical issues at Turn 8.

The second was for a more serious incident – the crash of Louis Rollo, where Aprilia riders were taken to the medical center and then brought to the hospital for x-rays and preventive checks after suffering a painful lower back injury.

Rolo is later discharged from the hospital, but misses the second day of the test.

There will be more track action in Navara on Monday, running to the same time schedule as Sunday, starting at 8:30am for Session 1 and 1pm for Session 2.

There will be two more BSB tests before the season begins, and we will be visiting Donington Park (April 18-19) and Alton Park (April 23-24) ahead of the opening round at Alton on May 3-5.
