Crystal Palace captain and England centre-back Marc Guehi is in the spotlight amid continued contract uncertainty and speculation of an impending transfer.
The defender is ready for his final year at Selhurst Park, Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed.
Gehi is in the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace, creating a scenario where the club risk losing him on a free transfer unless he signs a new deal or sells him by June.
Marc Guehi decides not to sign new contract with Palace
However, Glasner confirmed that the Eagles had offered Gehi a new contract, but Gehi made it clear that he had no intention of signing a new contract and wanted to leave the club for a new chapter in his career.
The England international was linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, but Palace decided to change their mind at the last minute and will remain at Palace despite undergoing a medical before joining the Reds.
As reported by The Independent, Glassner told reporters: “I think Marc has already told us that he will not sign a new contract and will leave next year.
“The club wanted[him]to stay. They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to do something different.’ That’s normal.”
“And for us, it’s about how we deal with this situation. What’s the best way to accomplish the next step? That’s how we talk.”
Guehi will be in high demand next summer
Guehi has been a great servant to the club and under his leadership the club won the FA Cup and Community Shield this year.
His consistent performances led to increased interest in his services and Liverpool made a move, but this was rejected by Glasner and his team.
The defender’s availability as a free agent next year has alarmed some of the world’s biggest clubs, and competition to sign him next summer is likely to be intense.
Liverpool are still in the hunt for his signature, while Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also keeping an eye on the player with keen interest.
