A war between Lyon and Man United began igniting ahead of the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals on Thursday.
Reuben Amorim’s Man United side will travel to Grooma Stadium later this week to take on Lyon. And much of it could depend on Andre Onana’s performance.
Since moving to Man United in the summer of 2023, Onana has struggled with things to the point that he will be replaced this summer. He came up with multiple big performances, but these are often cancelled by big errors, and before Thursday’s match in France, the former players made everyone aware of it.
Recently, Onana was quoted as saying that Man United is “a lot better” than Lyon, and Neman Matic, who was in Old Trafford between 2017 and 2022, returned to Cameroon’s goalkeeper at a pre-match press conference before the game assembled by Sky Sports.
“When you’re one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history, you need to be aware of what you’re talking about. If David de Gere, Peter Schmeichel, or Edwin van der Sal said, I’d question myself.
Onana then issued her own answer on the issue, stating that she had no intention of underestimating Lyon in X. Anyway, his comments could ignite the stomach of the League One side in Thursday’s game.
