Portrush, Northern Ireland – Open Championship chose not to increase their wallets for the first time since 2012.

Also, the US Open did not support wallets at Oakmont this year.

The winner at Royal Portrush this week will receive $3.1 million. This is the same amount that Zandershaufele won at Royal Troon last year.

The four majors have gradually increased their winnings in recent years. The Masters raised the prize money from $1 million to $21 million. The PGA Championship rose from $500,000 to $19 million.

The US Open left its wallet at $21.5 million, the best of the four majors.

This is about the biggest championships, not the prize money, but the green jacket and claret jug.

The PGA Tour Championship has a $25 million wallet. The PGA Tour Signature Event and the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Event will feature a $20 million prize.
