Defensive modifications are underway at Liverpool, and the club has prioritized centre-back signing this summer to strengthen Arneslot’s backline.

With Jarell Quansah confirming Anfield’s uncertainty, Bayer Leverkusen and Ibrahima Konate’s move towards a long-term future, Liverpool will need a reliable addition to their partner Virgil Van Dijk.

The Premier League champions have already addressed the issue of fullbacks by signing Jeremy Fripon and Milos Kerquez.

As Arne Slot aims to build on his success, attention may switch to signing a new centre-back.

Among the targets, Marc Guehi stands out as a strong candidate. Crystal Palace and England International offer Premier League experience.

The 24-year-old, who played in 34 leagues in 2024/25, shows consistency between his club and his country. He helped Palace win the FA Cup by beating Manchester City in the final.

In his country he was a regular starter and his performance at the euro last year was highly praised.

Guehi is in peak times and despite being only 24 years old, he has extensive experience in the Premier League.

Goncaro Inashio

Another name on Liverpool’s radar is the sport’s Goncaro Inacio, who was impressed by the ball’s ability to play and the presence of the heart.

The defender was part of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League winning team this summer.

He is a left-footed centre-back, something Liverpool lacks at the moment.

However, Inacio’s release clause and competition with other European clubs could make this a challenging deal.

Jorrel Hato

Liverpool is also watching Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, a highly rated young defender who has shown maturity beyond his years.

Slot, who is familiar with Eredivisie’s Hato, could make this a smooth transition.

His versatility, playing as a centre-back or left-back, adds depth and flexibility to Liverpool’s defense.

But the pigeon’s lack of Premier League experience and the need to physically adapt to British football means he’s a longer-term solution than anyone who can get in and make a difference.

Best option for Liverpool: Guehi

Given the situation and all the options considered, Guehi looks like the Reds’ most logical and ideal signature this summer.

He has the pace and strength to deal with the demands of Premier League football. On top of that, he is about to enter the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and the Palace, so he could be available at a reasonable price this summer.

Crystal Palace and England International offer the Premier League experience, the calm and discipline of the ball.

This is the right time for Liverpool to move for him. That way he can challenge Conate to the starting line and learn from him by playing with Virgil van Dik.
