The Pacers were on the road Tuesday night to face the Cavaliers in Game 5 of the East Semi-Finals. Heading into last night’s matchup, Indiana had a 3-1 series lead vs Cleveland.
Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs knew they were on the brink of exclusion on Tuesday. They started to heat up the game, but the Pacers quickly came together and became competitive at halftime. Tyreese Halliburton scored a perfect 5-5 over the arc in the second quarter, giving the Pacers the spark they needed. In the end, Indiana won 114-105 and 4-1 in the series. A few weeks ago, Athletic announced a vote to look into active NBA players. One question asked who is the most overrated player in the NBA. Of the more than 400 players who participated in the poll, only 90 of them answered previous questions. Approximately 14.4% answered. The number one answer among those who participated in the question was Ty Halliburton of the Pacers. His peers may doubt him, but Halliburton has proven they’re wrong in the 2025 playoffs.
Tyrees Halliburton scored 31 points, six rebounds, eight assists, one steel and one block against the Cavaliers on Tuesday. It was a spectacular performance from Game 5, from the age of 25. He was 6-10 over the ARC on Tuesday, but scored a perfect 5-5 5-5 in the second quarter, causing a big run for the Pacers. Three of these five triples in the second quarter were over 30 feet. Halliburton showed off his range with Cleveland in Game 5.
The two-time All-Star scored the highest plus-minus among the Pacers players at +27 on Tuesday. He was the Pacers’ difference maker in Game 5. In the third quarter, Indiana ran 21-2, scoring Cleveland over seven minutes. With a 114-105 victory, the Pacers punched their tickets to the Eastern Conference Finals. Their potential opponent is the New York Knicks, with a 3-1 series lead vs. Boston. Indiana and New York met in the 2024 playoff conference semi-finals.
