The upcoming series between India and England will feature a newly renamed trophy in honour of two legendary cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson, in Test cricket. However, despite the trophy name change, Mansoor Alikhan Pataudi legacy continues to be associated with the series.
The Pataudi Trophy was introduced in 2007 and was introduced to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first India-England Test match at Roads in 1932.
The Tendulkar-anderson Trophy will be announced ahead of the Test Series
According to a BBC report, the newly named Tendulkar-Anderson trophy will be announced ahead of the Test series that will begin on June 20th in Leeds. It will be held at Roads during the World Test Championship Finals on June 11th, with both Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson likely to be present.

Tendulkar and Anderson faced each other on 14 tests between 2006 and 2012. Tendulkar scored 208 runs in those encounters, but Anderson rejected him nine times.
India and the UK are competing for the Pataudi Trophy in their Test Series in the UK. Blue’s men won the first edition, and England claimed it in 2011, 2014 and 2018.
Pataudi’s name remains associated with the England India Series
Boria Majumdar said the trophy is expected to be the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy, not the Tendulkar-Anderson. However, Majumdar added that Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s legacy has not been removed from the Indian and England Test series.
“There was quite a bit of debate about the Pataudi Trophy’s rename to Anderson Tendulcal Trophy. It’s not the Tendulcal Trophy. It’s because it’s the Anderson Tendulcal Trophy I know, and I know. But that’s not the news.

ECB and BCCI say they are not intended to rename the trophy and downplay Pataudi’s legacy
Boria Majumdar said the BCCI and ECB are not willing to underestimate the Pataudi family’s legacy by changing the name of the trophy. He added that the trophy has a new name, but Pataudi’s name is still associated with the Indian and England Test series.
“The idea of the ECB and BCCI is not to show disrespect to the Pataudi family or their legacy. From what I understand, Pataudi heritage and name continue to be associated with the series, but only the trophies are named,” added Bolia.
“This is a fusion of tradition and modernity. The legacy of Pataudi – like Iftihar Ali Khan Pataudi, who played in two countries, and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, former Indian captain, who played in Sussex, is aimed at building a cultural bridge,” he continued.
In the 1930s and 1940s, Iftical Alikhan Pataudi played both in England and India. His son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, later became a legendary figure in Indian cricket, leading the national team in 40 Tests in the 1960s and 70s.
England currently holds the trophy depicting the latest series 2–2. The series began in 2021 and ended in 2022 after being delayed due to Covid-19.
