Patrick Beverly disagreed with what George Nian said to the Philadelphia 76ers star in a video like Vilar Garbage recently.
Trash cans in the NBA are one of the most common things as players keep shaking each other for 48 minutes and gain a psychological advantage on the court.
Players like Kevin Garnett spoke to the court about garbage as a way to increase themselves. Modern stars like Luka Doncic have seen the same, but stars like Anthony Edwards often catch Flak to talk about trash. Nonetheless, the trash can last forever in the NBA.
It’s not just the stars who do this. There are instances of this in almost every NBA game, and recent incidents have made many infamous.
During the game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers, Hawks forward George Nian entered it alongside the 76ers swingman Quenting Rimes. Nian advised Grimes as a role player who enjoys success due to a star like Joel Embiid being injured.
What Nian said has proven undesirable around certain corners of the media world, especially along with Patrick Beverly.
In the latest episode of the Patbev podcast, Patrick Beverly took umbrella for what Nian said to Grimes. The 12-year NBA veteran explained how Nian’s words could have a major impact on the perceptions of Grimes around the NBA. This could have an impact on Grimes’ career.
“I didn’t like it… I don’t like what was said, but I like Georges Nian. I’m a big fan of him. The hardest thing in basketball is getting ready. It’s very impressive to see success when your numbers are called.”
“Quentin Grimes is smoking m_______ to put him in a role that Nian said, and that he shouldn’t have.
“GM hears this, owner hears this, coach hears this, players hear this, players hear this, and actually believe it. Don’t put a hat on him. Don’t limit him.”
Since joining the 76ers, the Grimes averaged 22.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 21 games. After a hot start in his first few games with the 76ers, the Grimes scored a career high, including a 44-point performance against the Golden State Warriors.
The swingman has an expired contract and is playing towards major summer paydays. However, if Beverly’s statement is true, Nian’s words could haunt Grimes during summer negotiations.
I know Beverly didn’t comment on Nian from the Grimes fandom, given her openly criticising the 76ers star, which surged last week.
“It’s easy to play well for a team that doesn’t make the playoffs. Ok, I feel good when there’s no pressure behind you.
After joining the Dallas Mavericks 76ers amid an injury crisis that saw Paul George, Joel Embiid and Tylece Maxie Miss Time, the Grimes established himself as a massive scorer. He shows this possibility at previous stops, like the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons.
Hopefully, Grimes can find a home in Philadelphia after entering the restricted free agency. He can get a favorable offer from someone else, or the 76ers can easily extend him in the long run. He will be the perfect role player to bring the franchise closer to its competition next season.
