76ers forward Paul George spoke about his broken relationship with Chris Paul, a player he once considered a friend.
Paul George had 15 years in his NBA career, leading to meeting players he considers as friends. He’s approached players like Lance Stevenson, Stephen Adams and Russell Westbrook.
He has been connected well throughout his career, but some players are more difficult to link than others.
Enter Chris Paul, the respected veteran player. At the same time, he also gets Flak due to his on-court attitude. He still has a good relationship around the league, but his antics may have gone too far.
As NBA veterans, George and Paul have interacted with each other throughout their careers. They even hit friendships related to training together in the offseason.
Unfortunately, the duo clashed in a game between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Phoenix Suns. It was a breakpoint in their friendship as George wasn’t grateful for what Paul was saying
“I was talking to CP. He was the reason I got LASIK. I’ll exercise with CP in the summer. It was the Brotherhood,” George said on the Pivot Podcast.
“Building a relationship is one thing, and you get on the court and start saying wild s___.
“A word was thrown out there between the two men that shouldn’t be thrown out there. That kind of thing just drew a line for me.”
This was a tough moment for George, as he thought he had a lifelong friend as a veteran point guard.
Over his long career, Chris Paul was an incredible point guard. He is a prototype pass first guard with endless knowledge and effort. However, he also has a reputation for going into arguments with his opponents.
It made him a polarizing player, despite everyone being able to respect his greatness. Unfortunately, his personality and willingness to gain all the benefits have turned off some people. This includes officials he was at odds with.
George is part of the crowd because they were close, but Paul went a little too far.
“It hurt my feelings. We thought we were tighter than that, and we got between these lines and we were dumped to say that certain words didn’t expect from you,” George continued his pivot.
Sadly, the strong friendship ended badly. They were close enough to interact during the offseason, but their temperament flapped up during the game. It’s fair that George draws out the line when it comes to personal attacks.
Some might call him “soft” to set boundaries. But many people support George to do what he did. It’s a strange dynamic, but people don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.
