Anthony Edwards struggled in the Western Conference Finals, leading to criticism about his game. Among the critics is Paul George, who has seen the postgame improve Edwards’ influence.
The Minnesota Timberwolves lost in the Oklahoma City Thunder final in the 2025 Western Conference Finals. It was an overwhelming defeat and involved a struggling Anthony Edwards.
The Timberwolves Superstar Guard had a decent series, but revealed some of his issues. He is an incredibly offensive player, but he needs to improve his postgame to become more dynamic.
Paul George is an experienced star player faced with a defensive plan aimed at stopping him. Despite his experience since 2020, Edwards is only 23 years old, so he deserves more time to develop.
George knows Edwards has an undeveloped possibility, so he analyzes the young guards. He feels that the postgame is a big deal for Edwards. The Timberwolves star relies on downhill play that is not always available.
After watching the series against Thunder, George knows it’s good to post to Edwards. He has a physical body with his defender, and he is an elite shot maker.
“I think Ali’s getting better is he has to develop a post game. He’s where he can slow down the game. He can get to the dribble and get up and shoot,” George said on Podcast P.
“I think it will help players get better in rhythm where they start to get closer. He doesn’t have to worry about bringing two defenders to the ball and trying to be free.”
“I think that’s the next evolution of Ali. Always try to feel how the game is played when it’s playing.
After being defeated by lightning, Edwards insisted he would work hard in the summer. It’s a good sign of his stardom and longevity as he is constantly trying to improve.
Some players struggle to use the offseason to practice in the gym. He works hard behind the scenes, so that’s not an issue for Edwards. He also knows what he has to keep doing, as he is an avid watcher of gaming movies.
The postgame is one of these aspects as I saw Shy Gilgauss Alexander in the postseason. The Canadian is fantastic in that aspect of his game and could influence Edwards with his style.
Minnesota has a great superstar, but the rest of the team has to help him too. The Timberwolves have a bright future as long as they continue to build around Edwards and his strengths.
