Paul Pierce refuses to give up the Boston Celtics and uses the Dallas Mavericks example to strengthen his take.
The Boston Celtics are just one loss from being eliminated as they’re down 3-1 with the New York Knicks from the 2025 NBA playoffs.
Despite being the league’s defending champion, the Celtics were completely abolished by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
Plus, the Celtics’ comeback odds are now tanked as Jason Tatum was on the way to the season due to Game 4 Achilles injury.
Celtics legend Paul Pierce remains a stubborn fan of the franchise, even after retiring from the NBA. Clearly, the piercings are closely followed by the second round series vs. Knicks.
His team is down 3-1 in the series, but Pierce still looks forward to the Celtics’ comeback as he used an example of the Dallas Mavericks landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
“We saw that the Dallas Mavericks had a 1.8% chance of getting a number one pick, so it’s not impossible. Nothing is possible,” Pierce said.
He added: “They have a victory record without Tatum. They have championship DNA in that locker room.”
During the 2024-25 regular season, the Celtics played 10 games on the floor without Tatum. Surprisingly, they had an 8-2 record in those matchups.
Losing the best players on a team is never a good feeling. Nevertheless, Piercing held his head high on C, urging him not to feel sorry for himself.
“You can make it disrupt and feel bad for yourself, but some of our athletes are just cut differently.
“We’ve been fighting within us, I have to believe in people who are champions, who have been to the mountain peaks and are fighting in some way.
Given that Game 5 will take place at TD Garden, it is a great opportunity for the Celtics to take advantage of their home court advantage and take a step closer to a 3-1 comeback in the series.
