Mark Marquez is about to complete one of the biggest comebacks in sports history.
That’s what he said, according to his compatriot and rival Pedro Acosta, Marquez’s much-awaited seventh Motogpu crown would make him look like NBA star Michael Jordan.
“I already said a few weeks ago that it’s clear that Mark will win the championship,” KTM rider Acosta said Thursday at Barcelona Motoug.
“But when he wins, it will be (one of them) the biggest comeback by a sportsman in the history of sports.
“Because when Michael Jordan goes to play baseball and then goes back to basketball, you can compare this to Michael Jordan.
“I think he will be the first MotoGP rider who can sit at this table in Nadal, Alonso and Gasol.
“Because of this, I think it will be one of the biggest comebacks in the sport.”
After winning six titles in seven years at Honda, Marquez’s dream career has become suspicious due to complications from a broken arm in Geres 2020, Diplomat, an uncompetitive machine.
Since the sport began in 1949, no rider has regained a 500cc/MotoGP title after more than three consecutive years of defeats.
Marquez spent five seasons without a crown.
However, after splitting from Honda, he revived his career with a switch to Gresini last season, snapping to the factory Ducati team in 2025.
So far, Marquez has won 14 Grand Prix, including the Sprint, and 10 of the last 14 races.
This was the advantage of his points, and the 32-year-old got his first chance to win this year’s title with six rounds left at Misano the following weekend.
