The Los Angeles are no strangers to injuries this season, but what’s as frustrating as the All-Stars moved to the injured list is the ones that are poorly performed by the All-Stars.

When Tanner Scott signed a four-year, $72 million contract this offseason, it was primarily due to a 1.75 ERA, over 72 innings last season. So far, in 2025, the formidable bullpen arm is less recognised recently, boasting a 4.56 ERA with five blown saves in 27 appearances.

Scott still has 10 saves leading the team, but with just three walks a year, he has 28 strikeouts, but pitching coach Mark spoke honestly about his closer.

“I wouldn’t say he was someone who had the command of the Carshow or someone in that caliber,” Prior said. “Now he’s missing in the outside half of the plate or when he was supposed to be up, or vice versa, so I think it’s probably not been hit a bit.

“The speeds are slower a bit, so obviously these guys make that percentage a second longer,” Prior said. “And when he needs to leave the zone, he’s more in the zone. So it creates more contact.”

This increased the expected batting average among the batsmen he faced. In 2024, that averaged just .200, but rose to .255 as a . Scott was also ranked in the 99th percentile of his lowest hit rate in 2024, at 27.5%.

That number rose to 44.9% in 2025.

Bill Plunkett, of the Orange County Register, wondered what expectations were in his previous expectations when assessing his incoming pitching roster.

“I don’t know if I’m hoping to see what the guy will do. We just stick to the process and I think we’ll probably be able to answer that question better at the end of the year,” Prior said. “Especially the bailouts. Sometimes they can be very unstable. You can do a good 10-day run, and all of a sudden he has some rough stuff. That’s it.

“But he’s working so hard and he’s going to get to where he’s the kind of person he expects everyone to become him or who’s used to seeing since last year.”
