The Dallas Mavericks won’t continue after losing Luka Donsic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Atlanta Hawks originally drafted Lukadon Sic with the third overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, but he was traded with the Dallas Mavericks on draft night.
Over the next seven years or so, Donsic ruled the NBA while wearing a Mavs jersey. Obviously, the fanbase was hoping that Luka would retire as a heretic.
However, on February 1, 2025, Nico Harrison shockedly traded Donsic for the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a trade package centered around Anthony Davis.
Donsic was officially traded with the Lakers in February 2025, but rumors emerged about the move in August 2024.
NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor reported on the Ringer podcast that the Lakers are focusing on Don Sic as the franchise’s next face after LeBron James retires.
“I have reported on this podcast and how I aim for Luka in the future, and I will see if that works.
“Dallas has just had a final and Dallas looks better than ever with their supporting cast,” O’Connor said.
He added: “That may not work, but the Lakers are still thinking long-term at this point, not clearly trading future picks.
Well, within a few months, O’Connor’s report has turned into reality as Don Sic was not only traded for the Lakers, but also handed the keys to the franchise.
During his career, Don Chic never showed that he wanted to be traded by the Mavericks. And why did he lead the Mavs to the 2024 NBA Finals?
As a result, Mavericks fans laughed at the report and knew that nightmare would only be waiting for months in the future.
“The Mavericks will give Luka the whole state of Texas before this happens,” one fan wrote. Another was added, but “Mark Cuban won’t let this happen.”
“Stop making things for clicks,” said the third fan.
“He has Kylie, why does he leave for the poverty franchise?” added when the fourth fan shot the Lakers.
“The only way that happens is if Luka is the owner of a part of the team,” the fifth fan proudly predicted.
At the time, the reaction of Mavericks fans was justified. But for now, Don Sic is a member of Purple and Gold, and Mavs had one of the most troublesome seasons in franchise history.
