US Solheim Cup captain Angela Stanford appointed Major Paula Creamer as the second assistant captain of next year’s Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands on Tuesday.
Creamer, 38, who won the 10-time LPGA Tour, joins Stanford and fellow assistant captain Christy MacPherson, leading a group of top 12 American golfers facing Europe in a biennial team event.
Creamer, who won the 2010 US Women’s Open, played for her first Solheim Cup team at the age of 19 in 2005 as an LPGA Tour rookie, was the youngest player in the history of the event.
She also represented the United States in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, with her seven foursomes winning, with 8½ foursome points the most for American players.
“Wearing red, white and blue was an important part of my career. I have promised Angela that she and the US team will do whatever it takes to represent the US well and ultimately hold the Cup for two more years,” Creamer said in a statement.
Stanford and Creamer were teammates in the Solheim Cup, but were not paired five times. They also served as assistants under Staysiers at the Solheim Cup last year.
“Paula’s passion for her country and the Solheim Cup is contagious,” Stanford said in a statement. “When we played in the Solheim Cup and when we worked together as assistants in Virginia last year, I really enjoyed being Paula’s teammates.
The US regained the Solheim Cup in Gainesville, Virginia last September, stopping Europe from winning the trophy for the fourth consecutive unprecedented.
The next Solheim Cup will be held from September 11th to 13th, 2026, with the US seeking its first road victory since 2015.
