'Prets could have finished that sh*t': Pros react to Ian Machado Garry running away in the UFC Kansas City main event

Ian Machado Garry returned to the UFC Kansas City victory track despite his fears.

“The Future” bouncing off his first defeat with a solid performance against Carlos Plets on Saturday at the headliner. The official scorecards read 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 courtesy of Garry, but the unanimous decision does not reflect how closely the star has been shaken up.

As Garry clearly rose to the card in the third round, the plate stole round four with a gust of punches that dealt damage later in the frame. He then ruled most of the fifth round, crouching within him, lying on the rat with heavy ground and pounds, as if the star had been pushed out another one from winning a knockout. However, Garry was at the victory.

Several fighters felt they should clean up the garry, including Sergio Pettis, whom they wrote on Twitter.

Henry Sejude, Casey O’Neill and Derek Branson were among the fighters who wanted to see if enough stars remain in the tank to draw victory from from.

Check out the social media reaction to the UFC Kansas City Main Event below.

The prize might have finished that shit. The last bad decision

I can’t believe Plets didn’t finish Ian Garry at the last minute!!! I can’t believe it #ufckansascity

– Henry Cejudo (@henrycejudo) April 27, 2025

Had Carlos been taken down, he would have got a stop. It’s frustrating to watch, but a great fight IQ from Gully #ufckanascity

Plates will definitely need to smoke. #ufckanascity

– Derek Branson (@derekbrunson) April 27, 2025

A good victory by Garry, but don’t hit the stars

– Terrance McKinney (@twrecks155) April 27, 2025

Amazing battle! ❤❤️

– Conor McGregor (@thenotoriousmma) April 27, 2025

Ian Garry is still him! It’s not finished yet, but Garry’s “Fighting IQ is sharp tonight.” Pleats needs big moments to gain respect and momentum to return to this fight. #ufckanascity

Carlos may go for it too

– Rampage Jackson (@rampage4real) April 27, 2025

Gary’s IQ said he was going to win this.

It was a good cigarette provocation lol

This game is always dominant with rounded fighters.
You’re not going to knock everyone out, and you’re not going to submit everyone.
It’s well rounded.#ufckanascity

The fifth round and plate are still moving forward….Can you imagine how strong/advanced he would be if he didn’t smoke? ! Either way, I’m wearing a hat on him!#ufckansascity #ufc

– Corey ‘Overtime’ Anderson (@coreya_mma) April 27, 2025

Plates always go down as a fan favorite. But he has to tackle that fight IQ!! Garry was hurt and open for the finish, but gave him multiple opportunities just to get up and strike. A great performance by Garry Tho!!#ufckansascity

– Corey ‘Overtime’ Anderson (@coreya_mma) April 27, 2025

Well, that final 5 was dramatic. Machado Garry was in balance with his movements and delivery. Great job #ufckanascity
