Trent Alexander Arnold said Liverpool’s number 20 shirt would be immortal forever after the sad death of former teammate Diogo Jota.
After spending five seasons with Jota at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold posted an emotional message on social media following the devastating news.
Jota, who joined the Reds from the Wolves in September 2020 and played for Liverpool 182 times, was killed in a Spanish car accident shortly after midnight local time on Thursday.
The crash that took place in Zamora’s Spanish province killed his brother Andre Silva, who is also a professional footballer.
Alexander Arnold, who recently completed his switch to Real Madrid, won four major honors alongside Jota, including a successful Premier League title last season.
England International is separated from his new team at the Club World Cup, with Xabi Alonso’s side holding a moment of silence before training on Thursday.
“It’s very difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that there’s no one you care about,” Alexander Arnold wrote on social media.
“Diogo, your family was your world. They were everything. To Root, his children, and his parents, our hearts are all broken.
“When the pain is less, I want to remember Diogo with a big smile. Lots of laughter and happy moments. He was a really great teammate and a true friend.
“Forever 20. Rest in peace, Diogo.”
Liverpool said in his previous tribute:
It’s very difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that there’s no one you care so much.

Andy Robertson also shared an emotional message about his friendship with Jota during his time at Merseyside.
Meanwhile, Scotland’s left back and Jota fake an unfolding relationship that transcended Anfield’s pitch.
“The thing I think most about now is family. Their losses are too much to bear,” Robertson said in an Instagram post.
“We are very sorry that they lost two such precious souls – Diogo and Andre. For the sake of the team and club, we will try to deal with this together…
“For me, I want to talk about my peers, my buddy. I miss it like I love and I’m crazy. I could talk about him for hours, but that doesn’t feel that important right now.
“It’s a man. He was a very nice guy. He’s the best. He’s very authentic. He’s just ordinary and authentic. He’s full of love for the people he cared about, and full of joy.
“He was the most British foreign player I’ve ever met. We were kidding him when he was really Irish… I’m going to assert him as Scots.
“We were watching darts together and enjoying horse racing, and going to Cheltenham this season was a highlight.
“The last time I saw him was the happiest day of his life, his wedding day. I want to remember his constant smile from that magical day.
“I can’t believe we’re saying goodbye. It’s too early and it hurts so much. But thank you for being in my life, being a mate and making it better.
