Team India Cricketer Prithvi Shaw opened up about difficult stages of his career, including selling at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Shaw also admitted that he made many wrong decisions in his life, and off-field distractions led to his reduced interest in cricket.
Prithvi was once considered one of India’s most promising young talents. He has decided to break up with Mumbai and is preparing to join another state team. The Munbai Ricket Association reportedly issued a certificate of no objection (NOC) to him ahead of the upcoming domestic season.

In an interview with News24 Sports, Prithvi Shaw admitted that poor choices and off-field distractions had an impact on his game. The show revealed that he spent most of his day on the field before he began surrounding himself with the wrong people.

“I just know what happened. I’ve made a lot of wrong decisions in my life. I feel like I’ve started giving cricket time. Previously, I was hitting the net for 3-4 hours.
“After that, I began to consider things that weren’t that important. I made the wrong friends who started taking me here and there, and during that time I was distracted,” he added.

The 25-year-old batsman said he decided to distance himself from certain friends and make serious lifestyle changes. Shaw also expressed his dissatisfaction with the public’s perception, saying that even simple outings like family dinners are misunderstood.
“I left everything behind, friendships, lots of stuff, and everything. I don’t like going out these days. Paparazzi are there too. Even if I go to a regular restaurant, they exist.

In the same interview, Prithvi Shaw spoke about his weight and added that he never stopped training, but the lack of control over food led to weight gain. Shaw admitted that his eating habits had an impact on his fitness.
“I’m a big foodie, so I wasn’t in control of it. It wasn’t like I didn’t train, but I didn’t control my food. There was more food I ate, and I would fall asleep right after eating.
Prithvi Shaw played for India in five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I. He scored 134 runs in his Test debut against the West Indies in 2018.
The show was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team in the 2024-25 domestic season after two matches due to fitness issues. He was also removed from the Vijay Hazare Trophy Squad by the selector.
The batter scored 197 runs in nine innings with a strike rate of 156.34 during the Said Mashtak Ali Trophy, finishing as the third-highest lanseller in the campaign where Mumbai won the title. He played competitive cricket in the Mumbai T20 League 2025 at the end.
