WESTFIELD, Ind. — John Larm defended his LIV Golf Season Points title at the event on Sunday, without closing off with an 11-under 60 after losing the playoffs against Sebastian Munoz in the first extra hole of the Indianapolis event.
Munoz won two days after becoming the first player to film a 59 with a double bogey. Columbian player – Rahm hit the ball in driving range – birded the final two holes of 65 regulations to match Rahm at 22 under at the Chatham Hills club.
Larm also lost in the first extra hole outside Chicago last week, falling to Dean Barmester in the three-way playoffs, including Josel Barrester. On Sunday, Munoz beat the Spanish star but won the playoffs with a 6-foot birdie putt, 18th in par 4.
“It’s a great moment, but I don’t feel great to finish a year that loses two playoffs,” Rahm said. “I’m sure I’ll get through it over time. I’m really grateful for what I did this year. I know I’m proud of it so that I can win the season without actually winning the tournament.”
Rahm won the season points title from five-time winner of the season, Joaquin Neiman. Neiman shot a 66 and finished fourth at 17 under.
“It’s a bit difficult to swallow,” Nieman said. “But at the end of the day, I think it’s what it is. I think I’ll put something inside me, work hard, and get in this situation again next year and try to make it different.”
Munoz and Niemann led Torque GC to the Team Event Championship, scoring a total of 64 under. The team defeated the 53-under LIV mark.
“I was a little lucky he wasn’t bumping into me and I finished it right away,” Munoz said. “When I beat him for the first time, I was really proud of it and I’m happy to be able to get home with the trophy.”
Ian Poulter birded four of the last five holes with 67 holes, leading to 17th place and avoided relegation from the tour. Majesticks teammate Henrik Stenson was kicked out and missed a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole, stayed on the tour and left Poulter.
