Lando Norris accused Max Verstappen of “smashing down his own race” after his latest wheel-to-wheel battle at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.

Norris finished second after fighting back from sixth when he challenged pole sitter Verstappen to turn one in the start.

Britton complained that Verstappen had got him on track, but the stewards defied the move and opposed the action.

Norris and Verstappen went on another fierce battle as they returned to Red Bull drivers on a recovery drive to P2 behind McLaren’s teammate Oscar Piastri.

When asked about his fight with Verstappen at the FIA press conference, Norris replied.

“He’s ruining his race. He’s not racing very smart. He could have finished 1-2 today.

“Yeah, he’s fighting, that’s always expected, but that’s what it is.”

Norris questioned Verstappen’s racing act shortly after Sunday’s race.

“If I don’t go for it, people complain. If I go for it, people complain,” he said.

“So you can’t win. But it’s really this at Max, you know, it’s a crash or don’t go through. And unless you really get in the right state and you put him in the perfect position, you can just get there.

“But today I paid the price because I wasn’t doing enough work, but I’m second very happy.”

Norris is 16 points behind Piastri in the championship after the sixth round opening.

This was his third consecutive victory for Piastri, his fourth in six races this season.
