How many more will the Glasgow Ranger sign?
Following the appointment of Russell Martin, this Ibrox team had always requested a massive overhaul, so within two weeks six new signatures had already arrived ahead of the start of the Champions League, with more predictions continuing.
Given that his three original jobs were south of the border, it’s a bit surprising that Martin is shopping primarily in the English lower leagues.
Rangers targeting another loan signature
Already this summer, both Max Aaron and Naserziga arrived at Ibrox on loan, joining from Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers, respectively.
Meanwhile, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez and Taro Asgard took part in permanent deals following an impressive campaign in the EFL. Lyall Cameron’s move from Dundee was pre-earned in January.
Currently, a report from Alex Crook on Talksport claims that Rangers are “eager to sign goalkeeper Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
They say Seagulls “already rejected.” The bid from the EFL Championship club is in the interest of many 24-year-olds who want a big say in his own future.
Rushworth joined Brighton from Halifaxtown as an 18-year-old, and despite writing for six years, he has not yet appeared in the advanced Albion.
He is on loan at Worthing in Walsall, Lincoln City, Swansea City, and recently appeared on the Tigers three times before being recalled to Brighton, an unused alternative in the Premier League in Hull City last season.
Now he’s ready to play regularly, so can the Ranger offer him a highly craved first team opportunity?
How Carl Rushworth improves Ranger
It will be interesting to see how Martin sees his goalkeeping options after Liam Kelly and Jack Butland played 45 minutes each against Ibrox club Brugge.
For almost two seasons, Butland was the uncontroversial number one, but he was dropped by interim manager Barry Ferguson in April, causing Kelly to start both legs in the Europa League quarterfinals against athletic club Bilbao.
The statistics below highlight that neither goalkeeper Martin is looking for.

As outlined, neither Buttland nor Kelly were glorious last season, so why are new goalkeepers becoming a priority?
Meanwhile, Rushworth has been highly rated, and on UP, his performance at Swansea has been labelled “incredible” by the manager of South Wales Luke Williams.
Meanwhile, athletic Andy Naylor praises his “present and performance” and his “good range of passing” and predicts he will be very top, so let’s rate his statistics from last season for his enjoyment of regular first-team football.

As the table outlines, Rushworth was not only one of the busiest goalkeepers in the EFL Championship in 2023/24, but also played for the Swansea side, which finished 14th but admitted 65 goals.
So Rushworth ranked in the top three in saves, particularly notable, saving on expected post-target goals, essentially saving 5.5 goals more than expected, and was ranked only in Mads Hermansen, who starred in the Premier League for this indicator.
So Rushworth is clearly a very talented, highly potential player, filling in the need for the Rangers.
Compared to the already-made signature, Thelo Aasgaard, Norwegian International may be a huge success in Glasgow, but the new central midfielder was not close to the top of the list of priorities.
Meanwhile, the goalkeeper as a position has a huge question mark hanging above it. It’s anyone’s guess to wear gloves against Panatinaicos for a week on Tuesday.
