At Saturday’s rugby championship, while Sachafeinberg Mugomezl agreed to be “glorious” against Argentina, Springbok coach Racy Erasmus quickly pointed out that the youngsters have a lot of help on the pitch.
The Boks defeated Rosspumas 67-30 in Durban, with Feinberg Mangomezul scoring 37 points, including three tries, scoring South Africa’s new single game scorer.
However, his coach was willing to accumulate praise at the age of 23 alone, so he confirmed that the fly half made many mistakes throughout the tournament campaign, adding a humble pie to the mix.
Erasmus said:
“What we’re always saying is that you can’t put someone there and expect them to become world class anytime soon. That doesn’t just happen overnight.
“He’s grown a bit against New Zealand, and a bit against Australia’s remote Australia, and I think he only has 11 hats – but I did have a lot of people who helped him out, Damian Willems played well, Manny played well, and there were a lot of people who played well, but Sacha never made a match.
“But there have been a lot of accidents and bad kicks in other games he’s played, up to where he is today. Sometimes you have to give the guy the opportunity to build their skill set at the test match level. He’s definitely helping him.
Team captain Siya Korishi wanted to be a good cop.
He states:
“The people around him have helped him make decisions, but clicking as a team allows every player on the team to show who they are, that’s what our coaches always tell us.
“They choose us for certain reasons – we all have a point of difference – and one of the Sachas runs on the ball. But the other players have to do their job to put him on him to do what he does.
“He was really great today. He was in charge and took the leadership we wanted from him. Hopefully he can continue next week.”
Boks led the rugby championship standings one point ahead of New Zealand and entered the final fixture at Twickenham in London on Saturday. With victory, the Boks retains the title.
