Galatasaray has launched a discussion with Aston Villa about the possibility of Emiliano Martinez’s signature as the Turkish champions step up their efforts to find a long-term alternative to the club’s legendary Fernando Musura.
A report by Spanish outlet Fichejjes said the Super Riggiants have formally expressed interest in the Argentina International, which the villa will be selling this summer due to financial fair play restrictions.
Having played a key role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup victory, Martinez is attracting attention from top European clubs.
The 32-year-old is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and was a pillar on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side.
Aston Villa accepts sales from Emiliano Martinez
The villa is reportedly open to selling starkeepers at rates in areas ranging from £25-35 million.
Galatasaray sees Martinez as the ideal successor to Musler.
Despite the serious intentions of the Turkish club, Martinez is said to prefer to stay in the UK.
Manchester United have been monitoring his situation, particularly amidst the uncertainty surrounding Andre Onana’s long-term position under Reuben Amorim.
However, there was no formal approach from the Red Devils yet. Also, there is no clear indication that the onanas are set up to be replaced.
Galatasaray has stepped up pursuit
If Galatasaray can present the right financial package and vision, they may be able to help keep Martinez away from the Premier League.
Emery, manager of Aston Villa, describes Martinez as the “best” goalkeeper in the world.
His potential departure will be a huge loss for Emery’s team, but they are working on a plan to replace the goalkeeper in the World Cup victory.
The villa is tied to the move, which Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, will replace Martinez.
