Aston Villa are reportedly among the clubs competing with Chelsea over the potential transfer of Porto’s talented young striker Sam Agehowa.
The 21-year-old has had a good run at Porto and has long been linked with the Premier League club, even if a move has yet to materialize.
A report from Portuguese outlet A Bola elaborates on this further, explaining that Agehowa had previously held talks with Nottingham Forest, but decided not to move because he was not satisfied with their project.
The report also mentions Chelsea, Villa and Newcastle, saying the Spaniard is likely to cost a lot of money as he has a €100m release clause.
Sam Agehowa transfer: Will the Porto striker ever move to the Premier League?
Agehowa looks like he has a big future in the game, having scored an impressive 35 goals in just 54 games since joining Porto.
It’s easy to see why Chelsea, a club that excels at signing many of the world’s best young players, were once interested in him.
Newcastle could have done well to sign Agehowa when they needed a replacement for Alexander Isak in the summer, and were also linked with the Spain international from Athletic at the time.
Villa, on the other hand, certainly need to make a big statement up front, with Ollie Watkins having lost form and possibly looking beyond his best, having joined the front line after the blow of losing John Duran in January.
Agehowa looks like he could be the player Unai Emery needs to build his attack, and he also looks like a player with the qualities and characteristics to shine in English football.
But Porto won’t be letting him go easily, so this will be an interesting transfer story to watch over the coming months.
