Chelsea are interested in signing Lazio defender Mario Gira at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has been doing very well for the Italian club, and reports from Fichages claim that Chelsea has identified him as targeting this summer. They were keen to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huysen, but the players agreed to join Real Madrid for £50 million.
It appears that Chelsea has switched attention to the Spanish defender. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to get a deal for the 24-year-olds across the line. He is valued at 30 million euros, and Chelsea certainly has the finances to get the deal done. The reported asking price seemed reasonable for players of his quality, and could easily justify investments in the near future.
The players are also linked to Tottenham and Manchester City.
Chelsea needs Mario Gira
Chelsea looked vulnerable at the back this season, and they need to bring in quality defenders this summer. To do well next year, they need to insert a gap in their team. They are seeking Champions League qualification and want to promote major trophies. Quality defenders can make a huge difference for them. Something like Benoit Badiashile can show the door in the summer, and Wesley Fofana struggles with persistent injuries.
Investing in quality central defenders will become a priority for Chelsea this summer.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old could also be drawn to the idea of joining Chelsea. They were one of the largest clubs in the world and were able to provide him with a platform to fight for the trophies regularly. British regular football could help him improve further and fulfill his potential.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea is offering official offers to sign players.
