Chelsea are once again preparing to shore up their finances in the transfer market, with reports in Portugal claiming the Premier League club is preparing a major offer for one of Europe’s most talented young forwards.
According to Fichajes, the Blues are planning to make a bid worth £87m for FC Porto striker Sam Agehowa next summer as part of a long-term plan to rebuild their attack and secure a prolific goalscorer for the future.
The 21-year-old Spaniard has quickly established himself as one of the hottest players in European football and his continued development has attracted serious attention from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea were interested in Sam Agehowa in 2024
Agehowa’s name has been on Chelsea’s radar for quite some time. The London club came close to signing the talented forward in the summer of 2024, when he was still at Atletico Madrid, but negotiations broke down at the final stage.
Instead, Porto swooped in to secure his signature, and the move subsequently proved to be a masterstroke.
In his debut season in Portugal, Agehowa scored an impressive 25 goals in all competitions.
This season, his form has been even better. Agekhova has already found the back of the net eight times in just nine appearances, showing not only her clinical finishing but also her maturity as a main striker.
The Premier League side see him as the ideal centre-forward to lead the attack.
Despite signing Joao Pedro and Liam Delap in the summer transfer window, the Blues lack attacking power and would like to add more depth in that department.
Porto has no intention of selling Agehowa
However, Porto is under no pressure to sell. Agehowa’s contract runs until June 2029, meaning the Portuguese giants are in a strong position to demand a hefty transfer fee.
Chelsea’s proposed £87m offer demonstrates both the player’s immense potential and the intense competition from rival clubs.
Porto are not going to part with their star asset easily, but Chelsea’s willingness to spend big shows how highly they value Agehowa’s talent and potential.
