Liverpool aims to sign a quality defender during the January transfer period, particularly after Giovan Nileoni’s injury.
The young Italian defender suffered a season-ending injury against Southampton in the English League Cup, and Liverpool is currently deeply lacking in their defensive forces. According to Football Insider, they aim to bring in a central defender and can aim for quick fixes.
Liverpool’s January plans have been revealed
They hope to lend it to players until the end of the season and sign them to add depth to their defensive units. It will be interesting to see if they can bring about the right reinforcement. They have been extremely defensively disappointed this season, with players like Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Conate being mediocre in their performances. In addition to that, both players have a history of injury problems.
Currently, Virgil Van Dijk is the only reliable defender at the club. Liverpool must ask to bring in quality defenders when the transfer window reopens.
Can Liverpool sign a quality defender?
They approached signing Mark Guech during the summer transfer period, but Crystal Palace eventually pulled the plug on the contract.
He will become a free agent in the summer and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will try to sign him in January for a reasonable amount. He would be an exceptional acquisition for the club. The 25-year-old was well settled in British football and he was able to quickly influence him.
Liverpool will need to improve defensively if they want to win a Premier League title this season. They have been extremely poor in the past few matches and have lost consecutive matches in all competitions. They are under so much pressure right now, and it is still unclear whether they will be able to return strongly in January and get through the next few weeks to improve their team.
