Jean-Philippe Mateta has been linked with a move from Crystal Palace in recent months.
The 28-year-old has been outstanding for the Eagles and has been linked with clubs such as Manchester United.
There are concerns about Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract status.
The 28-year-old is certainly one of the best strikers in the league at the moment, and it’s no wonder other clubs are interested in him. A move may have to wait until the end of the season as Crystal Palace do not want to lose the player midway through the season.
Meanwhile, he is nearing the end of his contract with the London club (in 2027) and they will be hoping to agree an extension with him. According to Football Insider, Crystal Palace could consider selling him at the end of the season if he refuses to sign a new contract.
Why were Palace able to sell Mateta?
Pete O’Rourke insists: “He is a key player in Oliver Glasner’s team. Palace have enjoyed a good season themselves and you don’t want to lose your top striker midway through the season because he will be very difficult to replace.”
“Palace have their own ambitions this season to make a breakthrough in Europe and finish as high as possible in the Premier League table.
“Obviously it’s a bit of a concern for Palace. He’s only entered the remaining 18 months of his contract, but a new deal seems unlikely. He’s in no hurry to sign a new deal with Palace. So, again, Palace may have to revisit this deal in the summer. If he doesn’t sign a new deal, it could be their last chance to get him.”
It will be interesting to see if Crystal Palace can keep him at the club in the long term. He is an essential asset for them and they cannot afford to lose a player of his quality.
