Leeds United have completed sales of young defender Diogo Monteiro, and Portuguese players have joined FC Aluka at an undisclosed fee.
Joining Leeds in 2023 with high expectations, Monteiro struggled to break into the first team and moved in search of regular football.
According to Portuguese newspaper records (H/T Leeds Press), Monteiro has signed a three-year contract with Aluka, which includes clauses that benefit Leeds United. The club holds 50% of future transfer fees, reflecting a deal like Tottenham sold Marcus Edwards to Vitoria Gimaers. Such clauses have proven to be advantageous for the club when a player’s career begins elsewhere.
The Monteiro deal includes a release clause of £8.6 million. This means Leeds will receive around £4.3 million if another team becomes active in the future. For players who didn’t appear on the first team, Leeds ensured they would benefit from his potential progression. Monteiro has been highly praised during his arrival, but there is optimism that he can get his career back on track with consistent playing time in Portugal.
A fresh start at Aluka might help Monteiro rediscover his talent and fulfill his promise that he once became an exciting prospect for Leeds.
Meanwhile, Leeds United are currently preparing for their Premier League campaign. The Premier League season begins later today and they hope to mark with the best flight and establish themselves as a formidable unit.
They have a free talented team and are looking to improve their quote this summer. It is still unclear whether it can bring the necessary additions before the window closes. They are trying to do well on top flights and guarantee they will remain in the foreseeable future Premier League.
