Liverpool are keeping an eye on extremely talented English defender Charlie Cresswell.
The 23-year-old has impressed for England Under-21s and Ligue 1 side Toulouse and could be snapped up for £15m. Cresswell has been hailed as an “excellent” defender during his time at Leeds.
According to a report from TBR Football, Liverpool are scouting the player and could consider a move in the future. Several Premier League clubs are interested in him, including Newcastle United. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Newcastle make a move for the player in the coming months.
Cresswell was recently linked with a move to West Ham United.
Liverpool could use Charlie Cresswell
It’s no secret that Liverpool need a quality central defender. Ibrahima Konate could be set to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer of 2026. Joe Gomez has had repeated injury problems in recent seasons, and his signing remains a major concern.
Signing another central defender will be a priority for Liverpool. They also have connections with players like Marc Gehi. Cresswell would be a solid long-term acquisition for them. The 23-year-old has proven his quality in France and the former Leeds man has the ability to succeed in England. The opportunity to join the Premier League champions could be very attractive to him.
Newcastle keen to sign Cresswell
Similarly, Newcastle can also be an attractive destination. They offer Champions League football and have a talented team. They could also offer him plenty of opportunities. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. Newcastle need a long-term replacement for Dan Byrne and Fabian Schaal.
The 23-year-old should aim to join a competitive team that can fight for trophies. However, he will need to be able to play regularly at his new club. Sitting on the bench at a big club is not going to help him. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool or Newcastle are prepared to give him the guarantees he needs.
