Manchester United are rumored to be interested in signing the midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January.
According to Fabrizio Romano, they wanted to sign Conor Gallagher during the summer. Romano insists he may consider signing the 25-year-old midfielder if it becomes available.
Romano told GMS: “Yes, I think it’s possible that Man United could sign a new midfielder in January. If that’s the case, it would depend on the opportunity.”
“So unless there is an opportunity for a big name, I think it should probably be a loan deal or a window of last-minute opportunity on the market.
“For example, Man United tried to sign Conor Gallagher on the last day of the summer transfer window.
“So it might be interesting for Man United to have that opportunity, maybe on loan with an option to buy, in case he becomes available, or if other players with that kind of skill become available on good contracts, but we are not going in that direction at the moment.”
Conor Gallagher needs a fresh start
The 25-year-old has not started regularly for Atletico Madrid, so a return to the Premier League could be ideal for him. Manchester United could potentially sign a player like him, which would be an unusual move for all parties involved.
The midfielder needs to feature regularly at this stage of his career and Manchester United could provide him with that platform. They struggle to control games and need more physicality and drives in the middle of the park. The former Chelsea midfielder could be the ideal player for them.
Manchester United could use Gallagher
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United make a formal offer to conclude a deal, depending on their interest. Gallagher has played in the Premier League in the past and will be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.
Manchester United have the financial wherewithal to complete a deal, but it remains to be seen whether the La Liga side are prepared to allow him to leave midway through the season. He will help Manchester United improve and help them finish the season on a high.
