Newcastle United are interested in signing Brighton attacker Joan Pedro during the summer transfer period, and they have to pay him a substantial amount.
The 23-year-old joined Brighton for a fee of around £30 million, but according to a soccer insider, he is asking for a fee of around £50 million to sell him this summer. It is still unclear whether Newcastle is ready to pay his odds.
The Brazilian has stood out since his transition to the Premier League, with 30 goals and 10 assists in 70 appearances for the Seagulls.
Newcastle can use more aggressive depth
Newcastle needs more depth in its attacking units, and they are overly dependent on Alexander Isaac. South America shared goalscoring and created a burden with Swedish International. They recently failed in their pursuit of Brian Mbemo.
The opportunity to attend Newcastle could be attractive to him. They have ambitious projects and talented teams. They have also secured their Champions League qualifications next season.
Pedro would want to compete at a high level and fight for the trophy. Newcastle was able to offer it to him. They won the English League Cup last season.
Joao Pedro will be a future investment
It will be interesting to see if Newcastle is ready to bolster its efforts and put forward an official offer to get the deal done. The 23-year-old may be an expensive acquisition now, but he has the ability to justify spending in the long term.
He could potentially become a key player for Newcastle next season along with Isaac and Anthony Gordon. Newcastle aims to fight for the trophy once more and needs to sign players like Pedro.
23 years old is very young and he only improves through coaching and experience. He was well settled in British football and was able to make an immediate impact in Newcastle.
