Newcastle United reportedly will switch focus on the potential transfer moves of Liverpool striker Darwin Nunes.
This appears to have left the race for Eintrack’s Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitique.
Fabrizio Romano yesterday added on his YouTube channel that Liverpool has stepped up his efforts to sign Ekitique, adding that Newcastle has left the race for the Frenchman’s signature.
As a result, it appears that Newcastle is looking at the targets of other strikers, with one name from Nunez on the list.
Newcastle signing Liverpool’s Darwin Nunes?
Nunez will be a slightly surprising signing to Newcastle as he hasn’t seen exactly his Premier League home since joining Benfica’s Liverpool in 2022.
Uruguay International had some decent moments for the Reds, but overall it appears he has found a step up from Portuguese football to British football.
Nunes was Naples’ top target this summer, as reported by Alfredo Pedura Catch off sidehowever, that deal now appears to be off.
Still, it seems Nunez would be better off leaving the LFC to move abroad after a fight in the Premier League.
But Newcastle might be good at adding someone like Nunes as a team player, as Eddie Howe currently lacks a lot in an alternative to first-choice frontman Alexander Isaac.
Nufc wanted Ekitike. Ekitike may have been another great addition to Howe’s Squad, but perhaps Nunez isn’t a very bad plan B for the Northeast Giants.
I imagine Newcastle will face competition from Nunes’ signature, but as Naples knows, he will probably not be cheaper.
